Dr. Ralph Urmson is a 1968 graduate of The Ohio State University.  Originally from Rogers, OH, he has been practicing in Columbiana since graduating.  He was a farm and companion animal veterinarian for many years, but now concentrates his efforts on only companion animals.

Dr. Brian Urmson is a 1998 graduate of The Ohio State University and Dr. Ralph's son.  He is a companion animal veterinarian who also sees exotic animals.  He became the practice co-owner in 1999 and in 2009 became the sole owner as Dr. Ralph eases towards retirement.

Nancy L. Trevena, RVT is a 1990 graduate of Columbus State Community College with a degree in Veterinary Technology.  She is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), the Practice Manager, and Dr. Ralph's daughter.

Our staff is really what makes us unique.  They are all part of our local communities, and each brings something special to our clinic.  Together, they have over 100 years of experience as veterinary assistants!  That, and a strong love for animals, means they are dedicated to helping you have the best experience possible for the life of your pet.

Our hospital includes up-to-date surgical facilities where we can provide a wide variety of orthopedic, soft tissue, and elective surgeries.  We currently are using the safest anesthetic drugs possible, including many that are used on humans undergoing anesthesia.  Each of our patients is monitored during surgery and during recovery from anesthesia.  We also have a laser surgery unit.  Please feel free to ask our staff about the benefits of laser surgery.

Our in-house laboratory facilities include blood chemistry, hematology, serology, and parasite testing capabilities.  When necessary, we use university and veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics.  We also have digital X-ray capabilities for diagnosis of many diseases, in addition to other services such as radiographs for Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) certification.

There are specialists in Akron, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Columbus with whom we consult on special cases.  If your pet requires specialized diagnostics or treatment, we can refer you to these specialists so your pet can receive the best care possible.  Click here for a link to their websites.
